Add "storage location" URL field to FZJ metadata
As discussed during our VC for review of fdm/misc/awareness-fzj/institutsbesuche#3, we came up with userguide#6 (closed). This has to be backed in the metadata of datasets.
No matter where you put information about data storage location: it always will depend on people maintaining it (or automation doing this for humans). The guide should explain about best practices, etc.
We want
A new metadata field, located at our custom FZJ schema
Attributes:
- Not mandatory
- Not displayed on creation by default
- No default value possible
- Can be given multiple times
- Always a URL and no free text blocks, rendered in UI as a clickable
<a>
element
We discussed
"Storage Location" = URL
Make the storage location URL only, to be 1) machine actionable, 2) always meaningful by forcing people to create at least docs on whereabouts and 3) don't have splitted metadata with either or both URL and free text. URLs are at least in theory verifiable with crawlers.
Whereabout of "Storage Location" field
- We don't want to reuse "Alternative URL" from
citation.tsv
, as it's HTTP only and has a very official character and representation in things like DataCite schema - We don't want to use "Data Sources", as it's free text only
- We don't want to use "Keywords", as the URL is not a constrainable controlled vocabulary.
We go for creating a new metadatafield in FZJ metadata, which is in total control of us. It will not be included in metadata export formats, but that can be changed in code. As these links to external services or docs might break, it seems reasonable not to claim this being a high quality metadata value.
